Shreveport Fire Department graduates 75th Fire Academy class

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — On Thursday night at Broadmoor Baptist Church on Youree Drive, a group of dedicated young men and women graduated from the Shreveport Fire Department’s 75th Fire Basic Academy.

The graduates endured months of training involving fire fighting, hazardous materials, search and rescue, emergency medical techniques, and more.

“Truly an inspiration to a lot of younger people,” said Shreveport Fire Chief Clarence Reese, Jr. “To see that people are still interested in becoming firefighters, we have a public servant heart. We are here for the community. For the businesses. For the visitors that come to Shreveport. And to see these individuals sign up. Take the test. Go through the rigorous process of becoming a firefighter and making it to graduation day is overwhelming.

The graduates received a pin showing the completion of the academy and a certificate designating that they are eligible for employment as firefighters.

Chief Reese says he looks forward to bringing the graduates onto the force.
