NATCHITOCHES, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — A senior at Northwestern State University, has accepted a position as the sole student representative for The Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ) Louisiana chapter.
SPJ is the nation’s most broad-based journalism organization. It encourages free journalism and stimulates high ethical behavior standards.
According to the news release, Lia Portillo of Galliano is majoring in New Media, Journalism, and Communication Arts and is editor-in-chief of the university’s student newspaper, The Current Sauce.
In June, Portillo won second place in print news reporting from the state’s professional chapter of SPJ. Last year, at the Shreveport Journalism Foundation scholarship banquet, she was named recipient of the Orland Dodson Scholarship.
