Shreve Memorial Library’s latest strategic plan identifies five key focus areas. These are young readers, imagination, curiosity, connection, and comfortable places. While we all have a clear understanding of the first four, what does it mean to focus on comfortable places? Does that mean the library is focused on soft, cushiony chairs to relax and read in? Well, maybe. However, providing a comfortable place also means providing spaces where all feel welcome, creating a warm and inviting place for you to dream, discover, and do.
One way to do this is to be sure to provide great customer service. It warms my heart when I hear a patron gush over the service the library’s staff has provided to them or their family, or when I read a 5-star review of one of our library branches, acknowledging the wonderful assistance they received from staff. And while I love to hear these stories, it is even more rewarding for the library’s staff to be recognized for the work they do each and every day.
The Shreve Memorial Library Adger Award is one way that the library recognizes staff for exemplary customer service. The Adger Public Service Award was established by the estate of Blanche and Moultrie Adger, long-time patrons of Shreve Memorial Library Broadmoor Branch, because of the outstanding service they and other senior citizens received at the library. The purpose of the award is to recognize sustained, excellent public service assisting senior citizens by a Shreve Memorial Library employee.
