SHREVEPORT, LA – March 27, 2024 – The Cedar Grove Mural Management Team, chaired by Victor Thomas and Francine Brown, invites residents and stakeholders to a public community meeting on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm at A.B. Palmer Park in Cedar Grove, Shreveport, LA.  The meeting, titled “Enjoy Red Beans & Rice, in return for your Advice,” marks the culmination of collaborative efforts by residents and volunteers to shape the content of a mural or public art installation commemorating Cedar Grove’s 100th Anniversary in 2027.

Organized by the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC), the project has been guided by a dedicated committee of volunteers led by Victor Thomas and Francine Brown, with valuable input from Versa Clark. This final community meeting aims to gather feedback on content ideas for the mural, celebrating 100 years of People, Places, Events, and Values significant to Cedar Grove’s rich history.

A light fare of complimentary Red Beans and Rice, cornbread, and brownies will be provided during the meeting, fostering an atmosphere of community engagement and collaboration. Attendees will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and ideas, contributing to the creation of a mural – or series of murals – that reflects the essence of Cedar Grove’s vibrant past and promising future.

The mural will serve as a visual narrative, portraying the community’s evolution over the past century. Once content ideas are gathered, SRAC will initiate a Call for Artists to bring the vision to life and with the committee will begin to raise funds for a Cedar Grove community selected design.  SRAC will oversee the installation and completion of the public artwork.

For those unable to attend the meeting in person, a QR code will be provided, allowing them to scan and access a feedback form. This inclusive approach ensures that the entire community has the opportunity to contribute to this significant project.

Don’t miss this chance to be part of Cedar Grove’s history and help shape the artistic representation of its centennial celebration.  Join the gathering at A.B. Palmer Park on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm at A.B. Palmer Park in Cedar Grove, Shreveport, LA, or scan the QR code to share your ideas and be a part of this exciting milestone.
