At least one of Shreveport’s public pools will be getting badly-needed upgrades next year, though how the city will pay to restore its other pools remains unclear.

All five of Shreveport’s public pools are outdated and in poor shape, but renovations at David Raines Park pool will go forward next year thanks to a combination of state and federal funding in the city’s 2024 budget. The state funding originally was meant to support a swimming lessons program instituted after the tragic death of a half dozen children in Red River more than a decade ago and the federal dollars are from the American Rescue Plan Act, which local governments have used to fund out-of-reach projects.
