SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) — The Shreveport City Council is seeking essays that recognize and celebrate the contributions of women, both locally and globally, and engage the community in meaningful dialogue about their impact.
The Women’s History Month competition is open to ninth- through 12th-graders. It challenges them to reflect on the role of women in their lives and history. Participants can choose from two themes:
- The power of role models – writing about a woman who has personally inspired them.
- Unsung heroines – highlighting a woman in history who has made a significant impact.
Essays should be no longer than 300 words.
They are due by 5 p.m. Feb. 28 and should be emailed to RJ.Johnson@ShreveportLA.gov with the subject line “Essay Contest.”
The essays will be judged on originality, clarity, structure and relevance to the theme.
