SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – One woman in local radio is thriving despite initially being told she needed to change something integral to her identity.
“When I first got started in radio, I was taken to the side and I was told by the company that I worked for that I needed to change my name because a Latina at the time, I was doing just country radio and they said Latina and country radio just isn’t going to make it,” said Krystal “Chica” Montez.
Over a decade later, Montez is still proving the naysayers wrong, leading one of Shreveport-Bossier’s top radio morning shows.
