Robert Trudeau will give a series of talks, aided with his photography and drawings, about Shreveport’s legendary Cora Murdock Allen, who was responsible for the historic Calanthean Temple in downtown Shreveport.
Allen was a successful pioneer in women’s issues, having founded Shreveport’s first Black women’s club in 1908, as well as being the leader of the Order of Calanthe. Allen recognized that black businessmen were excluded from office space on Texas St. and the Calanthean was built to rectify that.
