Since 2003, we have had four United States Presidents and a global pandemic, but the one thing that has remained constant in the Shreveport-Bossier area is Superior’s Steakhouse.
In the winter of 2003, Phil Barbaree and Bob Kirchoff opened Superior’s Steakhouse in Shreveport. Known for their successful endeavors at the infamous Superior Grill, the pair wanted to bring an experience to the area.
Superior’s Steakhouse — Chicago-style dining in Uptown Shreveport, takes its customers to a land far north with the greeting of the revolving door and the dark wood lacquered walls.
Barry Gerald, General Manager, and day one employee said, ” Our architect was from Chicago, and so we went up there, and he said, you know, an old-style Chicago steakhouse, you need a revolving door.”
Gerald said the Superior’s team went to an old warehouse in Chicago and went down into the basement. There, the iconic revolving door, in all its different pieces, lay on the ground.
This door has stood out in front of Superior’s Steakhouse for over 21 years and has been part of countless photos and memories.
History: Superior’s Steakhouse
In 1983, Barbaree and Kirchoff opened their first restaurant, Superior Grill — Shreveport’s finest Mexican grill. From there, the pair expanded to Baton Rouge in 1991, Birmingham, Alabama in 1995, and New Orleans in 1998.
Following those successes, Barbaree and Kirchoff decided to embark on a new journey that would bring fine dining to northwest Louisiana.
