SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – “Why not bring different countries to the children and let them just get a sample of what’s happening in the world to explore later on,” said teacher Darius Swift.
Midway Elementary held their very first food and culture festival on Wednesday, March 26 with students and parents invited to experience what their students have been learning firsthand.
“Today is about introducing our new countries. They have been studying social studies by different countries and so one of the teachers had an idea let’s have a festival. A food and cultural festival,” said Midway Principal Lashonda Diouf.
“You were able to experience things from Italy from Nigeria from Jamaica from Palestine. Places that they’ve never been to…so they learned about the food culture, the clothing, and different things that are important in these countries,” said Brittany Bass Arvie. “And who knows? One day, they may decide to study abroad all because they had this experience here at Midway Elementary today.”
